What Does GOTS Certified Mean?
GOTS is the Global Organic Textile Standard, a voluntary standard governing organic textile processing and supply-chain requirements. Its scope matters when you read a mattress claim.
Why scope matters
GOTS Version 8.0 states that claims about combined products must clearly identify the certified component, and retail claims about a GOTS good depend on the final product's certification status. That is why it is better to say exactly which cotton, wool or finished product is certified than to use “GOTS mattress” loosely.
What to look for
- The exact certified material or finished product.
- Certification body or license information when provided.
- Whether the claim refers to cotton, wool, the cover, or the whole finished product.
- Current certification documentation.
Signature Bliss example
PlushBeds currently describes the Signature Bliss organic cotton and British wool as GOTS-certified components.
